Kids and adults alike will enjoy looking at the facets on the compound eye of a dragonfly, or viewing the venations of a leaf, or seeing what a dog flea looks like.  For high power magnification, the compound light portable field microscope is used.  This type of microscope is designed to view a specimen on a microscope slide, with a cover slip on top.  Both low power stereo and high power compound portable field microscopes often have battery powered illumination.
